5 Amazing Hacks To Jumpstart Your Health & Wellness
How to improve your health and wellness.
We talk about it all the time.
I’m a physical therapist, and very often I’m talking about ways to improve your health and wellness with my patients.
So today I’m gonna talk about five amazing hacks to help you improve your health and wellness. And they’re not what you think
What is your health and wellness?
Really, What is it?
So let’s break it down a little bit.
Let’s talk about health. Health is defined or described as the absence of illness or infirmity. And it’s also described as including a healthy mental state as well.
Now, health is usually focused on your body and how well functioning it is. Your health involves the way you eat, the way you exercise or how it affects your body. And it’s also the absence of acute or chronic illness.
Wellness is often defined and described as living a healthy lifestyle and working towards achieving your full potential.
Wellness is usually more concerned with a lifestyle that is producing wellbeing. Now you can work towards a wellness lifestyle, whether you’re in perfect health or whether you’re struggling with a chronic illness and wellness is talking about all aspects of your life.
It’s your body, your mind, your relationships, your emotions, and so much more.
Working together on both your health and wellness can help you achieve and work towards a higher state of wellbeing.
So how do you do it? How do you start working towards improving your health and wellness?
I want to start with my first hack.
And like I said, it’s not what you think.
Very often, when we talk about improving your health and wellness, we talk about an exercise program, how to eat right, and healthy eating. Starting meditation or yoga or Tai Chi.
Well, my first hack is…
Focusing on your mindset.
For example, let me ask you this.
Have you ever started an exercise program where you had all the good intentions, but you stopped after three days or you wanted to start eating healthy or do a diet only to fail in about a week or two.
Now, why did that happen?
It happened because you didn’t have the right mindset. It’s about developing; what I call a positive, proactive mindset.
It’s having a positive, constructive attitude towards all aspects of your life. It’s about being grateful for where you are now and what you have, and knowing that you can have the right mindset, the right positive mindset to reach any goal you set for yourself.
Now, speaking of goals, that brings up my second hack.
My second hack is…
Finding Clarity
Finding clarity is about being realistic about where you are presently and where you plan on going. And that’s setting specific goals for yourself.
Very often, when we try to start a health and wellness program, let’s say we’re trying to start eating healthy, or we want to maintain a more improved weight.
Your goals are not specific enough and you thinkto yourself; “oh, I should do this. Or I’d really like to do that. Or maybe I should start this exercise program or should really see a cardiologist, because I’ve been having these arrhythmias that I’ve been feeling this but haven’t done anything about it because you haven’t set specific goals for yourself.
If you want to set goals for maintaining a better weight or losing weight, what’s the first thing you have to do?
If you’re finding clarity about yourself, you have to start out and find out where you are at that moment in time. And what does that mean? With losing weight? It means you have to step on the scale. And a lot of us don’t want do that in the beginning.
Because if you want to set specific goals for yourself and you want to reach a certain accomplishment, you have to know where you are now and know where you want go specifically so that you can track yourself and know whether you’re making progress or not.
So the third hack is…
Commitment.
It’s commitment to yourself. It’s not commitment to a trainer that you’ve hired. It’s not commitment to a doctor that says you should do this or that for your overall health.
It’s committing to yourself because YOU are the only one that can truly make a difference in your life.
Remember you have the choice every day.
When you wake up, are you going work towards your goals or are you going do nothing and keep yourself in a negative mindset and not move forward?
Committing to yourself and being honest with yourself, with how you’re progressing, makes all the difference in the world.
It’s tough to get started sometimes. But, if you have a positive mindset and you get clarity on what you want and you commit that you’re going to reach the goals that you’ve set for yourself, then you’ll start to see progress.
Remember getting started, very often, can be the hardest part, but once you get started, you’ll get momentum and you’ll see progress.
It was Loa Tzu that said…
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. “
And this quote from an unknown source…
“The best project you will ever work on is yourself.”
Now the fourth hack is…
Being Present In The Moment.
Now, when you’re caught in a negative state and you’re not moving forward or progressing in certain areas of your life that you want to, It’s very often because you’re not present in the moment.
You can get hung up on traumas and insecurities that we have from the past. And we’re worried about a future that hasn’t happened yet. And that pulls us away from our present self. And when you’re not present, it’s hard to work on any of the things that you want to progress in.
But you see, these things all build on themselves.
When we talk about finding a positive mindset, finding clarity, committing to yourself and now being present in the moment, all together will move you forward in the right direction and you will see progress where you haven’t seen it before.
The fifth hack is …
Focusing on Solutions
It’s being solution oriented or finding solutions to challenges rather than focusing on your problems.
If you’re having problems moving forward with your health and wellness, and you’re not seeing the improvements that you want to see, very often, it’s because you’re focusing on problems and pain rather than focusing on the solutions for what you wanna accomplish.
Your, your brain will give you back more of whatever you focus on during your day. So if you’re focusing on your pain and you’re focusing on why I can’t lose weight, your brain will tell you exactly why; “Well, you can’t lose weight because of… this, this, this, and this.”
But if you focus on how do I improve your health and wellness, “how do I maintain this weight by this date?” And if you say it in that way, then your brain starts to go to work on it. “You maintain this weight by this date by doing this, this, this, and this.”
And before you know it, you start to see progress.
But remember it’s not easy. You have to work on it consistently.
So, to improve your health and wellness, whether it has to do with your body like losing weight, or you’re concerned about a cardiac issue that you may have or some other medical problem that’s going, or you want to improve your emotional health or you want to improve your overall health and wellness…
Remember my five hacks
I want you to start with your mindset.
Then I want you to find clarity. Get clarity about where you are now and where you want to be, what you specifically want to accomplish with respect to your health and wellness.
And this can be done for every aspect of your life.
Number three, commit to yourself. Make the commitment to yourself that you’ll choose to move forward in these areas.
The fourth hack was be present in the moment. You’ll find once you improve your mindset and have that proactive, positive mindset, and you get specific about what you want and you commit to yourself, you will be more present in the moment.
And finally, number five was a solution oriented focus on what you want rather than what you don’t want.
