2 Tips To Help You Reach Your Next Big Goal
I want to talk today about…
How to reach your next big goal. Now, the title for this one could have easily been, how to reach your next level. Now!
Now, I want to give you two big tips.
The first big tip on how to reach your next level now, or how to reach your next big goal is… to believe in yourself.
You see many of the challenges we face in life and our lack of growth come from within. They come from an insecurity in yourself and a lack of self worth and an insecurity about your ability to achieve the goal that you’re trying to accomplish.
The first big tip is to believe in yourself.
Wayne Dyer said…
“Self worth comes from one thing, thinking that you were worthy.”
And I would go even further that and saying, it comes from one thing, KNOWING that you are worthy.
See, very often the insecurities we have about ourselves run deep and it can come from past traumatic events or things that have been bombarded into us from the time we’re young to the time we’re old.
And unfortunately, sometimes because we’re hardwired to think about the negative. We believe them. And we have insecurities about our ability to achieve certain things. And so we don’t even start them. We won’t even set goals. We’ll just say, “oh, I wish I could do that. Or someday I’ll do this. Or maybe I should do that. Or I should do this.”
Remember folks that “might, maybes and some days” stay “mights maybes and some days”
But you must first believe in yourself.
You might have heard me talk before about the mindset loop. Well, the mindset loop is neutral and it starts first with your thoughts and your beliefs about yourself. And your thoughts and beliefs about yourselves lead to our actions in life.
And actions done repetitively are our habits and our habits, my friends, is what gets you your results in life.
And the degree to which we can reduce our bad habits and improve our good habits is the success that we will see in our life.
But it starts with believing in yourself.
Very often, we’ll say I couldn’t do that or I couldn’t reach this goal because of this and this happened to me or this event happened to me or I couldn’t do it because that person caused me to have this problem.
80% of the time the issue is within ourselves and not external circumstances, so first, own that.
Know that you are in control. You are in 100% control of the actions that you take and the thoughts and beliefs you have about yourself.
And to know that you are in control and to know that you were worthy to reach any goal that you set for yourself.
So that brings up my second tip.
And the second tip is to actually set specific goals for yourself.
Because, very often when we don’t believe in ourselves and we have insecurities about whether we can accomplish something, we don’t set specific goals, because we don’t believe we can reach them in the first place.
But once you believe in yourself and you know you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to, that is when you need to sit down with pen and paper and you need to set those goals out.
So I’m going to give you a tool right now.
It’s my P.R.I.M.E. Goals.
And you may have heard this one from me before now.
Prime goals, the first P stands for:
P: Positive and Present.
I want you to write your goals down in the present tense as if you’ve already accomplished them. I run a 5k on this date by doing this, this and this. You see if you write it down in the present tense, you give your brain marching orders.
You tell your brain what to do and your brain will start to focus on the things that are needed; the tasks that are needed to be taken in order for you to reach that goal.
And if you haven’t done this before, you need to write your goals down. There is this magical connection between your brain and the pen on the paper that allows your brain to only focus on the goal that you were setting as you were writing it down.
So make sure you write you goals down on paper.
The R stands for:
R: Reachable but Reaching.
If you want to start to walk more, but you can only walk to the end of the driveway, set a goal for yourself that you’ll walk of 5k in three months and then your brain will start to go to what work on what it’s going to take to reach that goal.
The I in prime stands for:
I: Inspirational
It should inspire you when you set your goal, that if you reach this goal, it would change your life significantly and how you see your life.
Now the M in PRIME stands for:
M: Measurable
Remember what I said, it needs to be specific. If you want to walk or run a certain distance, then you have to have that specific distance down by this date. If you’re using your overall health and wellness, and let’s say you want to reduce your cholesterol, you need to have the numbers on your blood test that you want to reach.
If you’re looking to be a certain ideal weight by a certain time, you need to weigh yourself now so that you know how your progress is going from week to week.
So the E in PRIME is:
E: Envision
Envision yourself as if you’ve already reached your goal. You know me and you know that I love hiking. And so anytime I hike up to a mountain top, I envision myself on the top of that mountain. There may be obstacles and diversions along the path that it takes to get me to the top. But if I see myself on the top, I know I’ll get there.
So envision yourself reaching your goal.
That’s P.R.I.M.E Goals.
So the two big tips were first
Believe In Yourself…
Know that you are in control. Let go of those past insecurities you’ve had about yourself. Give yourself permission to let go of past traumatic events.
Anything that you think that somebody else feels about you or thinks that you’re not good enough;… that’s their problem, Not your problem.
Know that you are in control, know that you have the power to achieve any goal you set for yourself.
And tip number two is to…
Set specific goals for yourself.
Because once you believe in yourself, then you know that any goal you set for yourself, you give your brain marching orders and you’ll be able to achieve that goal.
If you work hard enough and long enough to achieve anything or any goal you set for yourself.
Well, I hope this information helped you out.
Be Positive, Be Motivated, Be Focused and Be Well,
Have a great day.
