2 Tips To To Turn Around A Tough Day
Did you ever have one of those days where you woke up and you just said, “Man, it’s gonna be a tough day.”
Three things go wrong before you even leave the house. And then you get to work and it’s more of the same.
It seems like at every turn, if something can happen to you, it does.
And then you get home and you’re in a miserable mood because of the day that you had. And then you lay down on the couch and as princess bride says,… you wallow in freakish misery… till the end of the night, and probably watch TV most of the night and then go to bed.
And sometimes it seems like you’ve had a week like this or even a month.
So when it comes to turning around a tough day, it’s really all about your mindset.
You see your mindset is a way of thinking or a set of beliefs that determines your attitude and your behavior.
And here’s the thing…
You have total control over your attitude in life. 100% control over it.
And you also have total control over your thoughts and actions, but it may not always seem that way, does it?
Because you don’t think so when you’re caught in a negative cycle or negative state or what I call a negative mindset loop.
The last thing you’re thinking about is saying, “oh, I should have a positive attitude.”
What you’re really thinking about is… “Why is this happening to me?”
You see, we default to a negative state and we default to negative thoughts. You see, it was thought that it was actually a protective mechanism, because most of the things that could injure us or harm us or possibly kill us, we had to watch out for.
We’re hardwired in our brain to think about the negative things that could happen to us. So we actually have to override that and work towards having a positive mindset and focusing on the positive.
So you see when you’re having a tough day, it’s easy to get mad. It’s easy to get angry or sad and you have a tendency to wear your heart on your sleeve as they say.
But the thing about getting mad and getting angry,… it’s okay to get mad. It’s okay to get angry. It’s appropriate sometimes, but what’s not okay is …to stay that way.
You see, as you work on your mindset and you work on having a positive attitude. As your thoughts and beliefs about yourself and the world around you improves and your attitude improves, so will your reactions to the external world around you.
Walt Whitman said,…
“Always keep your face towards the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you.”
If you continue to focus on having a positive attitude, then that will give your brain less time to default to the negative. And you will find ways to have a positive outlook towards your day and your life.
So as I said before, your mindset is a way of thinking or a set of beliefs that determines your outlook and your behaviors. So, so it starts with your thoughts and beliefs about yourself. If you have negative beliefs about yourself or insecurities about how you are as a person, then that already presets you to have a negative outlook and to have a negative mindset.
But if you start to believe in yourself. To know that you have the strength. That you are in control. Then, my friend, that is presetting you to be positive and to have effect on the world rather than feeling like the world is happening to you.
Now, remember, your mindset determines your attitude and your behaviors.
The next tip is having a positive attitude.
This is having a positive attitude, about three things.
- First an attitude about yourself.
- Second, it’s an attitude about others around you.
- And it’s an attitude about the world around you.
So, first, it’s the attitude towards yourself.
Believe in yourself. Have a positive attitude towards yourself. You have to stop the negative self talk.
- Change the “I can’t” to, “I can”
- Change the, “I won’t” to, “I will”
- Change the “I don’t” to, “I do”.
- Change inaction to action.
And when you change the attitude about yourself, that will change your attitude towards others.
Very often when we have a negative attitude towards ourself, we’ll see the negative in other people. But when you start to develop a positive mindset to start to develop a positive attitude towards yourself, then you will see the positive in others and how you react to others.
It’s very often that during our day, we react quickly. If you find yourself in a negative mindset, take a pause, take a breath. It’s a millisecond,… a microsecond, that nobody recognizes.
Victor Frankel said…
“In between stimulus and response, there is a pause. And in that pause, is the power. The power for us to choose how we will respond.”
So as you start to develop a positive mindset and a positive attitude towards yourself and others, take a pause with each interaction during your day and choose to have a positive mindset and choose to respond positively during your day.
And then there’s the attitude towards the rest of the world around you. Very often, when we’re in a negative mindset loop, we find tha we feel like like the world and everything is happening TO us. It’s not my fault. It’s all these external things that happen to me.
Whereas, 80 to 90% of the time, it’s our own thoughts and actions that are causing the issue. Not those things around you.
But when you start to have a positive mindset or what I call a Positive Proactive Mindset, and you have a positive attitude towards yourself and others, then you start to see that the world is happening FOR you. It’s not happening to you. And you have your force go out into the world.
Buddha said, …
“We are collection of our thoughts and actions up to this point in time.’
So if you’re not happy with where you are right now, then you can change your thoughts and actions from this point in time, moving forward to get different results than what you’ve been getting.
So again, to turn that tough day around, it’s focusing on having a positive mindset and improving your attitude towards yourself, towards others and towards the world around you.
And you literally can change in an instant.
So the next time you’re having a tough day, I want you to stop, take that pause and think to yourself, “:okay, I’m gonna have a positive day.”
Remember it’s okay to get mad. It’s okay to get angry, but it’s not okay to stay that way.
And you can turn it around because you have the power and you have the control. And remember you have 100% control over your thoughts and actions and your attitude.
Well, I hope this information helped you out.
Be Positive, Be Motivated, Be Focused and Be Well,
Have a great day.
